AN ELDERLY woman has died after she was hit by a car earlier today.

The woman, who was 74, was walking along Church Street in Hoo, off Main Road, this morning when a Silver Mazda spun and hit her after it collided with a Renault Kangoo van.

The car also hit an electricity pylon. Some villagers were left without power for several hours.

The Kent Air Ambulance was called to the scene, but a road crew took the woman to Medway Maritime Hospital in Gillingham.

The woman is understood to have suffered serious hip, leg and head injuries.

The accident happened just after 11am.
