Elderly woman seriously hurt in alleyway robbery

AN 83-year-old woman has been left with serious injuries after being mugged while delivering leaflets for her local church.

The victim was attacked as she walked through Tomson’s Passage, off Chapel Place, Ramsgate, soon after 10am on Tuesday.

Her male attacker grabbed her from behind, stole her black canvas bag and then shoved her away, causing her to fall against a flint wall.

The woman’s head struck the wall, causing a large cut, and she then fell to the ground and landed on her arm, chipping a bone in her elbow.

The man then ran off toward Chapel Place with the bag, which contained a red purse containing about £30 cash, bankcards and her asthma medication.

She was taken to QEQM hospital in Margate after being found by a passer-by.

Detectives will be doing forensic examinations of the woman's jacket, which the man grabbed during the robbery.
