IVORIES tinkled and strings were plucked as 20 young musicians from across Kent performed at a concert in Goudhurst. The recital was the grand finale to Finchcock's end of season festival.

The Goudhurst museum houses 100 vintage instruments, some dating back to the 18th century - 40 of which are in full concert playing order. It is the largest collection of classical instruments in playing order in the world.

Among young instrumentalists at the concert were pupils from Tonbridge Grammar School for Girls, Maidstone Grammar School, The Judd School, Tonbridge, and Gravesend Grammar School. The Hackney Youth Orchestra, from London, also joined the chorus.

Pieces by Bach and Gluck were included in the recitals. Finchcock's Katrina Burnett said: "We encourage young people to have a go on our instruments and I think we are quite unique in that. We are very keen to get young people involved in music - it was absolutely lovely."
