Scare yourself stupid at some of the X-rated Halloween attractions taking place across the county this week.

Live horror shows at the Canterbury Tales will frighten punters in the gruesome graveyard of St Margaret’s Church, written and performed by students from the University of Kent. Classic stories take a sinister turn, followed by a guided tour through the diseased streets of medieval England, where more nasty surprises await. No under 12s.

Open: Friday, October 26 to Friday, November 2 from 7.30pm.

Plucky visitors to the Chatham Historic Dockyard will walk corridors of the Masthouses and Mould Loft where visitors have reported seeing figures and hearing strange tapping. The ghost walks at the Dockyard are well renowned but carry an added chill when taken on Halloween. Walkers are taken through these corridors in the dark, where they will stop, stay quiet and listen to the building. No under 18s.

Open: Friday, October 26 and Wednesday, October 31, from 8pm and an extra walk at 10pm on Wednesday.

The terrifying tours of the dark and dingy tunnels at Fort Amherst have been made into an art form by the team who have a combined 28 years’ experience of running scare attractions. Scene after scene of unimaginable horror is followed by a barbecue and bar, where punters can relive their terrifying experiences. No under 16s.

Open: Friday, October 26, Saturday, October 27, Tuesday, October 30 and Wednesday, October 31, from 7pm to midnight.

Explore the castle rooms at Leeds Castle and hear gruesome tales from its 900-year history on Halloween ghost tours. Ride the ghost train to the Barbican where a guide then escorts visitors, starting in the castle’s dark cellars. No under 15s.

Open: Monday to Wednesday, October 29 to 31.

A scythe-wielding demon, howling skeletons, demented witches and flesh-creeping zombies will haunt those brave enough to walk into the woods at the Rare Breeds Centre. Blood-splattered ghosts will lurk as fear fanatics wander the Boo Tunnel and watch scary theatre. Not for under 12s.

Open: Friday to Wednesday, October 26 to 31, excluding Sunday, October 28, from 6.30pm to 10pm.
