Border Agency staff have discovered £300,000 of Euro notes in a car at Dover.
The discovery was made after officers stopped a Rover car which was waiting to board a ferry yesterday, and a sniffer dog gave a positive indication. The notes were allegedly hidden in the engine compartment.
Dervish Ozdemir, 32, of Monmouth Road, London, was interviewed by Revenue and Customs officers and charged with concealing criminal property. He appeared at Folkestone Magistrates Court today, when he was remanded.
Revenue and Customs spokesman Bob Gaiger said: "Cash is seized if there are reasonable grounds to suspect it is the proceeds of, or is intended for use in, illegal activities.
"The Proceeds of Crime Act was specifically designed to take the profit out of crime, making it harder for money to be laundered and depriving criminals of their illicit wealth. It is a vital element of our criminal investigation strategy."
