POLICE were called to an address in the county at the weekend where a Second World War live shell was buried in the garden.
Around 300 residents near the property in Grebe Close, Hawkinge, had to be evacuated from their homes while army bomb disposal officers carried out a controlled explosion at 1.45pm on Saturday.
No-one was hurt and there was no damage to any buildings. Evacuated residents were allowed back to their homes at 2.10pm.
A 47-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing explosives on Saturday. He was released on police bail pending further enquiries and is due to return to Folkestone police station on Wednesday.
