Thanet MPs Roger Gale and Steve Ladyman and kmfm presenter Johnny Lewis are among those supporting the Dad’s Quest prostate cancer awareness campaign on Friday evening (March 27).
They are among more than 200 men who will have their blood taken by qualified medical staff for screening for the illness.
The samples will be collected from 6.30pm in advance of a fund-raising bingo evening at Hartsdown Technology College in George V Avenue, Margate. Money raised will go towards the £16,000 target to buy two mobile scanners.
On Saturday (March 28) St Augustine’s at Canterbury Road, Westgate, hosts a fun-packed gala charity evening. Strictly Come Rotary - inspired by the television ballroom dancing show - will feature six members of the Westgate and Birchington Rotary Club who have spent two months training, partnered by semi-professionals from The Page Mason School of Dance and Drama in Broadstairs.
The Rotarians will each perform a Latin American dance which will then be judged by the 150 diners who will be casting their votes in the style of the Eurovision Song Contest, with each table of diners representing a separate EU country. Every contestant will receive a medal and disco glitter ball, donated by Rotary president Mike Benton.
Proceeds will be allocated to various local charities, the main recipient being Dad’s Quest.
On Thursday, April 16, there will be another prostate awareness evening at Broadstairs Pavilion in Harbour Street from 6.45pm, administered via the Graham Fulford Trust. Consultant urologist David Baxter-Smith will give a short talk to the gathering.
Dad’s Quest is supported by the Isle of Thanet Extra and kmfm for Thanet radio as its chosen charity appeal for 2009.For full details of fund-raising events, visit the appeal website Dadsquest.co.uk or telephone 07972923126
