A former Kent Police detective accused of murdering his hairdresser wife wept in the dock at Maidstone Crown Court today when he appeared for a brief hearing.

Ivan Esack, of Rosewood Drive, Ashford, was expected to make a bail application to Judge Jeremy Carey, but did not do so.

The 38-year-old football agent is alleged to have killed his estranged wife Natalie Esack, 33, at her salon Esack Hair and Beauty in Ashford High Street on Monday.

A post-mortem examination found Natalie died of multiple stab wounds.

It is understood Natalie, who had been married to Esack for about eight years, was in the salon with one employee at the time and no customers were present.

Esack was arrested shortly afterwards at the couple's detached home.

He was remanded in custody today until July 12, when he is expected to enter a plea to the charge.
