Welling manager Jamie Day has admitted he faces a battle to bring Ben Greenhalgh back to the club.

Greenhalgh (pictured) shot to fame after winning a contract with Inter Milan last year. He won Sky TV's Football's Next Star programme, where the prize for the winner was a six-month deal with the Italian giants.

Greenhalgh's deal was extended last summer but he returned to England at the turn of the year and is currently searching for a new club.

He was a late substitute for the Wings in the 3-0 pre-season friendly defeat to Charlton on Saturday.

"Ben has come back and is in no-man's land," revealed Day. "He wants to be full-time and has trials coming up.

"We've said come with us for a bit and see how you get on. When you drop out you like to think that you can get something but if it doesn't work out then we'll see if we can do something."

Greenhalgh made his Welling debut in 2009 when the Wings beat Whitstable in the Kent Senior Cup final.
