Eyes down for the Medway Big Quiz

DO you fancy testing your general knowledge or getting together with some friends for a fun evening?

The Medway Messenger’s attempt to hold a record-breaking quiz night ticks both boxes. This year’s KM Big Quiz takes place at the Black Lion Leisure Centre in Gillingham on Friday, October 19.

To be the largest charity quiz ever staged in Medway, more than 50 teams of eight must participate. To set a new Kent record, more than 76 teams must take part.

The evening is being held to raise funds for worthy causes. Proceeds will go towards Macmillan Cancer Support, the Medway branch of Leukaemia Research, the Mayor of Medway’s Charity Appeal and road safety charity the Kent and Medway Walking Bus Group.

The cost to enter a team of eight is £50. Each person will receive a ploughman’s meal and a free drink. Faversham’s Shepherd Neame Brewery will be running a bar for the evening, with proceeds going to the chosen charities.

Other main sponsors include Medway Ports and Furley Page Solicitors.

P&O Ferries has donated vouchers for all eight members of the winning team to take a car and up to nine passengers to France for an extended trip.

A number of local businesses have donated prizes for a raffle which will be held on the night.

One lucky winner is sure to be a happy snapper when they get their hands on a bundle of goodies donated by Kwik Film, Chatham.

The film-processing and copying shop has created a hamper worth more than £100. It includes a top-of-the-range digital camera, photo frames and albums.

Manager Tina Patel said: “It looks like it will be a great evening, and this is certainly a great prize.”

One raffle winner will be sure not to lose their way after they pick up the prize donated by Halfords.

The motoring superstore has offered an in-car satellite navigation kit worth £150. The winner will also receive advice on how to fit and use it.

Colin Smith, from the Chatham branch, said: “The prize is for a good cause and we always like to help the community.”

Another key part of the evening will be the readers’ round.

It will feature 10 questions submitted by readers.

Entries must include an Internet or book reference so that the information can be verified.

Please also include a name, address and telephone number, in case the questions need to be clarified.
