AN E-FIT has been released by police appealing for information about a trickster posing as a water board official who stole cash from the home of an 85-year-old pensioner.

The conman knocked on the victim’s door in Cross Keys, Bearsted, near Maidstone, and told him he needed to come inside the house to turn off the water.

Once inside, he asked the victim and his wife to empty the cupboard under the kitchen sink and to turn the water on and off. It is believed another man entered the house while the victims were distracted.

A small amount of cash was later found to be missing from a bedroom in the house.

The offender who knocked on the door is described as a white man, aged 20-25, with cropped light coloured hair, slim and wearing a dark pullover and light jeans.

It is believed the two offenders may have been using a white van and one or both of them may have had an Irish accent.

The incident happened on July 29 at around 3.30pm. Anyone with information, or who recognises the e-fit, is asked to contact PC Pat Holmes on 01622 608182, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 – this call is free and confidential.
