The family of murdered school teacher Carl Davies have suffered another setback after they were sent documents about the investigation into his death... in French.
The 33-year-old's parents Andy and Maria were granted permission by a judge to receive the paperwork so they could see how the authorities have handled the case.
But, despite being sent a confidentiality agreement to sign in English, they were then sent the dossier in French.
As neither of them speak the language, they must now spend £2,700 so their French speaking lawyer can translate the papers.
Carl, of Harrier Drive, Sittingbourne, and pictured left, was killed on the French-administered Island of Reunion last November.
His parents were initially told he died after falling into a ravine, but a week later received news the ex-Royal Marine had been murdered.
Mr Davies senior, who lives with his wife in Harrietsham, said: "I know a women who teaches French but as soon as we give it to a third party we're in breach of the agreement and it's a €14,000 fine. It's just another obstacle.
"Our lawyer can translate it, but she charges per word and there’s 1,380 pages.
"We have the money to pay for it, but it's not the point."
Friday, November 9 marks the first anniversary of Carl's death.
His family and friends plan to mark the occasion by having a drink at the Woodstock Sports and Social Club.
The following day, Chinese lanterns will be released in memory of him at Minster beach on the Isle of Sheppey. Anyone who knew Carl is invited to attend.
People are asked to meet at the entrance to the beach, close to The Little Oyster car park, The Leas, at 7.20pm for a 7.30pm release.
The anniversary comes less than six weeks after Carl's birthday. He would have been 34 on October 4.
Mr Davies, pictured left, added: "It was a difficult day because wherever Carl was in the world he would always ring on his birthday and we knew we were never going to get that call.
"We can't believe it's almost been a year. People say it's gone quickly, but to me and Maria it's been a lifetime and every day there's no news I fear they will cold case the investigation.
"I'm not going to allow that to happen. I will continue to rock the boat to get justice for Carl. I owe that to my son, Maria and our daughter Kerrie."
Carl's sister Kerrie Stewart started an e-petition last month demanding information about his death.
