The family of a man who suffered serious head injuries in a fight outside a nightclub have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Spencer Dodgson, 27, is under sedation in a specialist hospital after the brawl in the early hours of Sunday.

His mother Sue and stepfather Grant Healey have been visiting him every day.

Mr Healey is also urging anyone who may have seen the fight to contact police.

He said: "I would say to anyone who saw the fight that it is important for them to speak to police to tell them what they saw."

Severity

He revealed the first they knew of the incident was a call to say Spencer was in Medway Maritime Hospital.

"My wife got a call to say he'd been beaten up and could we go and collect him from the hospital," he said.

"It was not until we got there we realised the severity of what had happened.

"It's been such a shock what has happened, it has been a tough few days."

Spencer was then transferred to a London hospital where doctors have tried to bring him out of sedation each day.

But, according to his family, each time doctors try and wake him up, he becomes distressed and is sedated again.

Mr Healey said: "He has severe bruising on his brain stem, the doctors are testing his brain every day and he's had brain scans and MRI scans but every time doctors try and wake him, he becomes distressed."

Since Spencer was injured, the family has had a lot of support from his friends.

Grant added: "Already about 30 of his friends have been to see him, they've been a real support, they've been brilliant.

"Spencer is in the right place and is getting the right treatment we are all hoping he will pull through soon."

Detectives investigating the incident are appealing for witnesses and want to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time of the fight, about 3.10am on Sunday, to contact them.
