Family and friends have paid tribute to a 30-year-old man killed after being hit by a bus in Medway.

Martin Barlow, described as a "workaholic" and "joker", died following the incident outside his home in Catherine Street, Rochester on Friday night.

His father, Simon Barlow, smiling, said: "He was a peculiar person, a very popular and practical person.

"He was generous to a fault and stubborn. He would lend you his last shilling if he could."

One of Mr Barlow's best friends, Kate Craib, from Castle Street, Wouldham, said he was known for catchphrases 'see you anon' and 'strewth!'

She said: "He would always make you do the right thing. He was not just there for the ups, relationships come and go, but he was like a rock, he was always there and I don't think I have got another friend like that."

Mr Barlow suffered fatal injuries after being hit by the Arriva bus near his home.

Kent Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the incident.

A local man in his 40s, who was arrested following the incident, has been bailed pending further enquiries until June.

The incident involved Arriva's 145 service and happened just after 9pm.

An Arriva spokesman said on Saturday: "I can confirm that at approximately 9pm last night, a single-decker service 145 bus travelling between Chatham and Warren Wood was involved in an incident.

"We are helping police with their enquiries."

Police have renewed their appeal for witnesses to come forward. Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 01622 798538.
