The family of a Dover teenager found dead at Sandwich have paid tribute to him.

They said Karl Pay, who they called "Proper Charlie", brightened up the darkest day and the cloudiest sky.

Karl was 19 and lived at Quebec Terrace at Dover. He was last seen alive at Rivals nightclub in Queen Street, Deal, on Friday night March 26.

His body was found at a creek near Sandwich. A member of the public made the grim discovery on Tuesday afternoon. March 30, and police were called to investigate.

Karl's family members formally identified the body.

Police said they were not treating his death as suspicious and a post mortem examination is being held.

The family issued a statement in which they said Karl meant so much to all of them. "He was special and that’s no lie. He brightened up the darkest day and the cloudiest sky, his smile alone warmed hearts, his laughter was music to our ears.

"Not a second passes when he is not on our minds. Each day we’ll ask ourselves why? He was the kindest, most gentle man and didn’t deserve to be so cruelly taken from us so soon.

"We may never know what happened to him that night and that’s the hardest part."

The family have thanked everyone for their ongoing support and the many tributes to Karl that have been received, but have now asked to be left alone to mourn their tragic loss.
