Mark Rogers and Scott Morley, who did a coastal walk in aid of Smiles4Miles
by Emma Grove
The family of a schoolboy critically injured when he was hit by a car more than a year ago is hoping he will be home in time for Christmas.
Miles Rogers, 12, suffered a severe brain injury after an accident outside Sheppey Rugby Club in Lower Road, Minster, last October.
He is being cared for by the Children's Trust rehabilitation centre in Tadworth, Surrey.
He has had some trips home, mainly at the weekend, but his mum Kelly said they hope he will be able to permanently move into his dad George Loscombe’s house in Minster before Christmas.
When he does return, he will need specialist equipment and care so the family set up Smiles4Miles to raise funds.
The Minster Primary School pupil had six operations in the first three weeks of his treatment as his brain had swelled so badly.
At the beginning of this month, he had a titanium plate put in and surgeons are planning to put a plate in the other side next month.
Miles's uncle Mark Rogers and his friend Scott Morley did a coastal walk from Worthing Pier to Margate Pier to raise money for Smiles4Miles.
They started on Friday, November 16 and finished 44 hours later on Sunday, November 18. It is hoped the 119-mile walk has raised more than £3,000.
The money will go towards buying a machine, to help with Miles's muscle development, the family is currently hiring.
Miles's mum Kelly, from Eastchurch, said: "Mark and Scott did tremendously and finished about four hours earlier than expected.
"The Premier Inn in Margate was really good so we would like to thank all the staff there.
"We are really pleased with Mark and Scott’s efforts and I would like to say thank you to them too."
