THE family of a 35-year-old man who was found dead in a multi-storey car park are appealing for anyone who knew his whereabouts before he died to contact police.

Father of four Alan Kirkwood, who had lived in the Medway area most of his life, was found dead in a stairwell of the Tesco multi-storey car park in Cross Street, Chatham, on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 12.

A member of the public had stumbled across his body slumped he floor close to exit doors on level four of the car park which is owned by Medway Council.

This week police officers have been outside the Tesco store handing out leaflets with Mr Kirkwood's photograph attempting find out about his movements leading up to his death.

Det Sgt Maxine Martin said: "Mr Kirkwood was last seen in the High Street at about noon the day before his death. We have a CCTV image of him walking along with a group of people. Perhaps these people knew his whereabouts later that day or the day he died.

"We don't know where he was for nearly 24-hours before his death so we need to hear from anyone who may have seen him on Tuesday, May 11 or Wednesday May 12."

Mr Kirkwood had grown up in the Gillingham area and had three sisters and two brothers.

His younger sister Sonya Kirkwood, 29, said: "Alan was never on his own. He was a really friendly social guy. He must have been with someone before he passed away and we want to know how he got there and why he died.

"It has been a painful time for all the family and his three daughters and son also have the right to know their dad's last movements. I would urge anyone who knows anything about my brothers whereabouts to contact the police."
