The family of man who was stabbed to death at his home in Chatham have paid tribute to a "brilliant son and brother."

Timothy Hutcheon, 34, was found by police at his bungalow in Dale Street on Wednesday evening after concern was raised for his welfare.

Timothy, known as Tim to family and friends, was born in Gillingham, where he spent most of his life.

In a statement released on behalf of Tim's mother, Jennifer Langley, father, John Hutcheon and brother, David Hutcheon, he has been described as "much loved by all his family and popular with his friends."

It said: "Tim was intelligent and after studying at Kings School he went to Humberside University when he was 18. He studied European Business and German and graduated successfully in 1997. He was fluent in German and a talented musician, playing the keyboards and organ in his spare time.

"Since leaving university Tim tried his hand at several jobs but unfortunately, at the same time, he spent a considerable amount of time in hospital. He very much wanted to lead what he considered a 'normal' life and he longed for a wife and to start a family of his own.

"Tim had some great times over the last few months. During the summer of 2008 he moved into his bungalow in Dale Street which he was delighted with. He was also an usher at his brother’s wedding quite recently and it was wonderful for us to all be together as a family. Tim thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the exhibitionist in him came out on the dance floor. He was a great entertainer.

"Growing up in Medway, Tim was a protective brother during his school years and he always had a generous nature, helping others whenever he could.

"The news of Tim’s death has come as a terrible and unexpected shock to all of us. We were all devastated when we heard what had happened, but we are all pulling together and have a lot of support from family and friends. We can only hope that Tim is now at peace and try, as a family, to remember the many good and fun times we all had together in the past."

On Tuesday, a 26-year-old man appeared in court charged with the murder of Timothy Hutcheon.

Deke Partridge of Maidstone Road,Chatham,

was remanded in custody by Medway magistrates.

He will appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday, February 23.

Deke Partridge was one of three Medway men arrested by detectives investigating the death. The other two were later released.

Floral tributes were placed near the front door of the victim's bungalow over the weekend.

Police are continuing their appeal for information.
