Gillingham fans have reacted on social media to the shock news of the club's manager being sacked tonight.
Steve Lovell had been at the helm of Gillingham FC for the last 18 months.
He is leaving the post with just two games of the season left.
The club statement reads: "After a discussion between the Chairman and Manager this afternoon, the club can confirm that Steve Lovell has been relieved of his duties with immediate effect.
"Mark Patterson will take responsibility for the game against Charlton tomorrow, and Blackpool next week.
"The Club would like to thank Steve for his efforts with the team over the past 18 months and wish him well for the future.
"There will be no further comment at this stage."
On social media, fans have called the decision 'shocking', branding him a 'club legend'.
The club currently sit in 13th place in League One.
They play local rivals Charlton tomorrow at their home stadium Priestfield. Kick off is at 3pm.
