The identity of a 51-year-old man shot dead at his own home in what police are describing as an "horrific and brutal murder" has been revealed by police.
More than 50 police officers are probing the killing of Danny King, who was gunned down at his house in Medina Road, Ditton, near Maidstone at around 3am Friday.
Sources say Mr King - also known as Shep - may have been shot in his own bed. Police have refused to comment on whether it was a calculated killing, but did say other family members, including youngsters, were in the house at the time.
Det Ch Insp Jon Bumpus, who is leading the murder investigation, said: "Mr King’s family are trying to come to terms with the loss of a loving husband and father."
He added: "We would like to hear from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious.
"You may not think the information will be of any significance but please contact officers with the details so that we can to establish why someone would commit such an horrific crime and bring the offender (or offenders) to justice."
A mobile police station has been sited on The Green, off Medina Road, for residents to speak to neighbourhood police officers about any concerns they may have.
Det Chief Insp Tony Thomas, borough commander for Tonbridge and Malling, said: "It is an horrific and brutal murder. Local residents can be reassured it is our intention to bring this person to justice as soon as possible."
The house was cordoned off on Friday as officers carried out a forensic examination of the scene.
