GRIEF-STRICKEN dad Richie Moulton has spoken for the first time about the accident that killed his young son Peter.

The boy was flung from the pillion seat of his father’s motorcycle after a minor collision on Sunday afternoon.

The youngster sustained head injuries and died the next day.

Mr Moulton described his son as a happy, enthusiastic and loving boy who always had a cheeky grin on his face.

Fighting back tears, the 41-year-old IT consultant said: "It was a relatively minor accident. A tragic turn of events.

“I walked away with bruises and Peter should have been fine but he hit his head. He has been torn from us and it leaves a void that can never be filled."

The family, of Canterbury Road, Kennington, Ashford, wants a jeweller to preserve a spaceship Peter made with Lego bricks he was given for his ninth birthday a month ago.

Mr Moulton’s Suzuki GSX 750 was involved in a collision with a Fiat Punto in Boughton Aluph at 5.30pm.

Peter, a pupil at the Phoenix Community School in Kennington, was thrown into the road.

He was taken to the William Harvey hospital on Sunday and transferred to a London hospital where he died the next day. The car driver was uninjured.

His father said: "It wasn’t his first pillion ride but he hadn’t been doing it long. I wanted him to be big enough to be able to hold on tight and reach the foot pegs."

Mr Moulton is a life-long biker who has been riding since he was 17. He has clocked up more than half a million miles on motorbikes and bought the second hand Suzuki machine just a few months ago.

"Peter was a lovely, mischievous boy. He had more than one person’s life inside him. He was my cheeky chappy. Always smiling and very creative.

"I don’t know where we go as a family from here but we are very close. My daughter Hazel and my wife Fran have been very strong. We will love him forever," he added.
