A songwriter from Faversham is hoping to capture the spirit and passion of the nation with a new song for this summer’s World Cup.

Having penned England’s Dream in just two days, former Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School pupil Matthew Seal (pictured) is now looking for a local teenager to sing lead vocals.

The 46-year-old Chelsea fan, of Nightingale Road, will be holding auditions later this month in either Faversham or Canterbury and hopes to unearth the next talented vocalist.

He said: “I didn’t set out to write this song. It just came to me one day while I was walking back from work through Green Park in London.

“I pretty much wrote the rest of the song on the train journey home.

“I recorded a demo version on my eight-track recorder at home and my girlfriend and business partner Anna sang the vocals.

“But, when you listen to the lyrics, it’s sung from the perspective of a teenager who thinks my generation had their chance for glory and blew it, so now it’s their time to take over.

“That’s why we’re looking for a youngster, a boy or a girl, preferably aged between 13 and 17, to front the song.”

Father-of-two Matthew, who works in London for music licensing company PPL, will be recording and producing the song at Chestnut Studios in West Kensington at the end of this month.

He plans to hold auditions on the weekend of Saturday, April 17, and Sunday, April 18.

The Football Association has taken the unusual step this year of not endorsing an official World Cup song.

Matthew, a former guitarist with band The Last of the Teenage Idols, feels it will open up the charts for some exciting independent tunes.

He added: “It’s a fantastic prospect to capture the nation’s imagination with a simple tune, but equally important to me is to find a local youngster who can really make a career for themselves.”
