Nuala Brenchley-Sayers and David Thompson with Griff and Tetley, sampling the menu at The Wine Vaults in Faversham
by Lauren Fruen
A mutt's menu catering for canine customers is starting at a Faversham pub.
The Old Wine Vaults, in Preston Street, is offering bar snacks and a full menu to their dog customers as an alternative to pork scratchings and crisps offered to humans.
Man's best friend will now have the chance to dine like their human counterparts with a full menu suited to dogs.
David Thompson and his business partner Nuala Brenchley-Sayers, who have owned the pub for three years, offer the niche market as part of their efforts to be a dog friendly bar.
Nuala said: "There was a feeling of why should dogs be left out when they come to visit us? We didn't want them to miss out when they came to the pub. We have lots of dog customers and we wanted to promote sensible dog eating.
"We are calling it a mutts' menu and it will be a full blackboard menu, just like we have for their human owners.
"We started to sell bar snacks for dogs just after Christmas, which are handmade.
"After our cinnamon and honey flavoured bar snacks for dogs proved popular - even our human customers love them - and sold out, we thought we should expand the range to a full menu.
"The menu will be full of all homemade food, which I will cook. It's great when owners bring their dogs into the pub. We have a pub dog called Tetley, named after the bitter, and my dog Griff, who is an ex police dog, who are always here.
"We will be introducing the menu from next week. The menu will have a range of biscuits specially made for the dogs. People will be able to order the dog meal at the same time as ordering their own food."
The Swale CAMRA cider pub of the year is in the good beer guide and offers a specialist steak menu for their human customers.
