People living near Manston fear a business park which would create thousands of jobs will engulf their homes.
Residents of Pouces Cottages live less than 1km from the first phases of the proposed China Gateway.
But if a third phase is given the go ahead, the development will extend over countryside, surrounding homes at Alland Grange.
Local resident Amy Murray said: “I came to the countryside to get away from buildings. I did not expect an industrial park to be built right on my doorstep.
“Thousands of people will work here and, yes, that will create employment.
“On the other hand it will be taking agricultural land which is already in short supply.”
The China Gateway site will include over 40 warehouses and buildings and parking for around 3,700 vehicles. It will cover an area equivalent in size to over 70 football pitches.
A planning application for the development reveals that the business park will be open around the clock, with employees carrying out 24-hour shift work.

Objections to the application, from Commercial Group Properties PLC, have to be lodged with Thanet council by Friday, May 9.
A report about the application is due to go to the council’s planning committee this month, suggesting a site visit takes place before a final decision is made – possibly at a meeting in July.
Cllr Roger Latchford, the council’s cabinet member for culture and economy, urged local people to look at the plans and to come forward with any comments or suggestions.
He said: “It’s important, as part of the planning process that we get the views of local people.”
Comments need to be submitted to either doug.brown@thanet.gov.uk or in writing to Planning, Thanet District Council, PO Box 9, Cecil Street, Margate, CT9 1XZ.
