A music festival due to be staged in Ashford this weekend has been cancelled.

The Festival in the Park, that would have taken place tomorrow and Sunday in North Park next to Ashford Civic Centre, has been postponed because of the predicted bad weather.

The decision was taken by the organising committee this morning after discussions with Ashford council.

A spokesman said: "Given the extremely poor weather forecast for the weekend, which would result in low attendance coupled with the necessary extra expenditure for additional health and safety measures, the committee felt it was not viable to continue with the festival this weekend."

It is hoped the festival can be rescheduled for another weekend this summer. The funfair will remain on North Park on both Saturday and Sunday.
