A humorous short film by gay teenagers in Kent has won an award for best film at a festival.

The three-minute comedy - which you can watch at the top of the screen - was made as part of an initiative run by the Kent Youth Service for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community.

The scenes, shot in black and white, hope to raise awareness about homophobic bullying in schools.

The film, called 'By The Way, I'm Gay', won the best film category at the first Kino Kids Film Festival held in Ramsgate. The festival was created by production company Maeve Films and run by filmmakers Elaine Wickham and Jan Dunn.

Jane Sales, a youth participation co-ordinator from the Kent Youth Service, said the need for the Boyz'n'Girlz project came from young people who had been victims of homophobia.

"They were looking for a specific youth project aimed at educating the majority of people and schools," she said. "It raises awareness of the day-to-day issues that the LGBT community is faced with.

"The boys loved taking part in it. It was all their ideas. They produced it and they are really proud of it."
