Fire crews answer 999 call outside station

Fire crews usually arrive at road accidents but the tables were turned on Monday when a car accident occurred on the door step of a Kent fire station.

Shortly before 7.30pm a two-car collision on the A2 outside Strood fire station left three people with head and chest injuries.

The on-duty crew heard the smash and rushed out to provide assistance. They freed the casualties and gave them first aid until paramedics arrived.

Police closed the road until about 10pm for debris to be cleared.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue said: "We were in the station when we heard a massive bang, we ran out and saw the crash just outside.

"We were first on the scene and stayed for about an hour, helping with first aid."
