Three people were treated for smoke inhalation after a blaze in a Kent village overnight.

Firefighters were called to a house in Trottiscliffe, near Maidstone, at around 1.45am.

Crews from Borough Green and Larkfield were later joined by colleagues from Maidstone and Thameside.

They extinguished a blaze on the ground floor shortly after 3.30am but were still dealing with a fire in the roof around three hours later.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said the building in Pilgrims Way had suffered extensive damage but confirmed no one was seriously hurt.

It is believed around a third of the ground floor and three-quarters of the roof have been affected.

It is not yet known how the fire started.
