Firefighters have tackled a blaze at a farm which destroyed a barn full of hay and straw.

At the height of the fire four appliances from Dartford, Thamesside and Maidstone were at the scene.

Twelve hours after the fire was first reported two fire appliances were still at Old Mill Farm, Darenth, Kent Fire and Rescue Service confirmed at 10am.

The 40 metres by 20 metres barn was well alight by the time the first fire crews arrived at the scene.

The cause of the fire is not known, but comes at the height of the mowing season. The livestock farm has been run by George North for more than 25 years.

No one was available from the farm to speak.
