Around 50 firefighters tackled a blaze at a house in Woodnesborough near Sandwich.

The alarm was raised just before 5pm last night when the roof of a property in Chalkpit Lane, Woodnesborough was found to be alight.

Six fire engines, a water unit, command support unit and a height vehicle were at the scene at its height.

Firefighters have been using breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, and four main jets with portable pumps.

The occupants of the house have been moved to a safe location, and salvage operations are under way for the undamaged part of the property. No-one has been injured.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.

The Red Cross have also been called to provide support for people who have been evacuated.
