Firefighters battle blaze at village pub

CYLINDERS containing liquid petroleum gas had to be sprayed with water to keep them cool when a fire broke out at a village pub.

Three fire engines were called to the blaze at the Walnut Tree Inn, Aldington, near Ashford, in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Crews from Aldington, Ashford retained and Ashford whole time fire stations attended the fire at about 5.15am.

Rubbish and timber was feeding the blaze near the LPG storage area, five metres from the pub.

Attempts had been made to put out the fire using fire extinguishers, but the full brigade was needed to bring it under control.

A hose was set up to spray water on the cylinders to cool them down. The perimeter fence was badly damaged by the fire, but nobody was hurt.
