Firefighters end youths' lift ordeal

FOUR youths were rescued by the Kent Fire and Rescue Service after they became stuck in a lift in a town centre tower block.

Fire crews were alerted at around 9.30pm on Monday when the mechanism broke and the equipment ground to a halt on the seventh floor at Kennedy House off Newcastle Hill, Ramsgate.

A fire service spokesman said: "We isolated the lift, opened the door and lowered it to the groud floor where the four occupants got out safely."
