Firefighters tackle blaze in engineering workshop

A BLAZE at a manufacturing company early today took firefighters an hour to bring under control.

The fire was largely confined to a furnace in an engineering workshop at the Ketlon plant in Transfesa Road, Paddock Wood.

Initially, three five tenders from Paddock Wood, Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells, attended the scene when fire broke out at around 3.30am.

But crews soon realised they would need assistance and a further three engines, a foam unit, a height vehicle and a command support vehicle were dispatched, including units from Maidstone and Marden.

The crews used breathing apparatus as they worked within the smoke-logged single-storey building and extinguished the flames with foam. They left the scene at around 4.45am.

A Ketlon spokeswoman confirmed that there had been no injuries to staff.
