Firefighters tackle bungalow blaze

AN ELDERLY woman was led to safety by neighbours after her bungalow went up in flames on Monday.

Firefighters were called to the property in Augustine Road, St Paul’s Cray at 7.38pm after several calls from the public.

The fire had completely devastated the women’s bedroom while the rest of the bungalow suffered serious smoke damage.

The woman was taken to Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup suffering from smoke inhalation.

Crews from Orpington, Sidcup and Bromley tackled the blaze for around two-hours.

No-one else was in the property at the time of the fire, the circumstances of which are being investigated.
