Firefighters spent two hours fighting a fire in the roof of a home in a village in Medway in the early hours of this morning.
Crews from Strood and Medway were called out to Milton Avenue, Cliffe Woods, at about 1.50am after the homeowners were woken by the smoke alarm going off.
They managed to get outside the property and called for help after the fire broke out in the roof extension of the semi-detached home.
The flames spread to the adjoining property and to stop the spread, firefighters stripped the roof of its tiles.
Both homes suffered smoke damage during the blaze, the cause of which is now under investigation.
A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service, said: "The homeowner was in bed but heard the smoke alarm and managed to get out.
"The home where the fire started has suffered a lot of smoke damage and the other has also suffered some smoke damage.
"The cause of the fire is being investigated."
