Firefighters tackle flats blaze in Folkestone

Firefighters were called to a block of flats in Folkestone last night when a wheelie bin was pushed up against the building and set alight.

It happened at 11.30pm in West Cliff Gardens.Smoke from the fire got into a flat through an open window.

Crew manager Mick Scott-Smith, from Folkestone fire station, said: "The man in the flat had got out when we got there and members of the public had started to put out the fire with water.

"We finished the job and ventilated the flat.

"No one was hurt. The only damage was to the outside of the building.
