Firefighters tackle garage blaze

A ELDERLY woman escaped unhurt today when fire broke out in a garage adjourning a house.

Firefighters were called to the fire in Bankfields, Headcorn, near Maidstone, at about 6.30am. It took crews fromn Maidstone and Headcorn around 45 minutes to put out the flames.

Firefighter Martin Rowden, from Maidstone station, said: "It wasn’t a particularly large fire. We put it down as an electrical fault.

"Nobody was hurt. The neighbours rallied round and made the lady tea."
