Firefighters were called to help empty 12 tonnes of beans from a grain dryer after it caught on fire.

Two fire engines from Ashford and Lenham, as well as a water unit, were called to the blaze in Pluckley Road, Hothfield at 7.45pm last night.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "It was in the process of being emptied by the owner when we got there.

"We helped move out seven tonnes of it and damped it all down."

Fire crews left the scene at 9.30pm.

The cause of the fire is not thought to be suspicious.
