Firefighters tackle rice factory blaze in Strood

More than 30 firefighters tackled a blaze at a rice factory last night.

Six crews were called to the Veetee Rice factory, in Neptune Close, on Strood's Medway City Estate, shortly after midnight after a fire broke out in machinery.

Firefighters used breathing apparatus to enter the building and bring the flames under control.

No one was injured during the incident.

Firefighters were able to get the flames under control by about 1.20am and the flames did not damage the building.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said that at its height around 35 firefighters tackled the blaze. The cause is not yet known.
