After previously releasing just a teaser image, Subaru has unveiled its new crossover model at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The XV had previously been showcased as a concept car, but this version is very close to the final production model, according to Subaru.

Although based on the same platform as the Impreza, the XV is longer, wider and taller, and should offer a notable increase in space for passengers and luggage, as well as the good driving dynamics which Subarus have become renowned for.

A choice of one petrol and one diesel engine is planned, with UK sales expected to begin in the first quarter of 2012.
