Five arrested in Medway drugs crackdown

Five people have been arrested in connection with drugs offences in the Medway Towns.

The arrests were made as part of National Drugs Awareness Week.

Officers have also carried out a number of warrants in which Class A drugs have been seized.

So far around £5,300 worth of drugs have been taken out of circulation and cash and suspected stolen goods have also been seized.

The initiative has been coordinated by Detective Constable Adam Jones who said:

"This action is in support of the National Drugs Awareness Week and shows that we will target those who are involved in supplying drugs.

"The effort also enforces our message that we are working hard to make their area a safer one.

"In addition to the warrants and arrests we are keen for people to contact CrimeStoppers and report anyone who they feel may be involved in the drugs network. Together we can make a difference."

Arrests to date

The first arrest was made on Saturday when a 24-year-old Strood man was arrested and cautioned with possessing class A drugs.

Two women were arrested on suspicion of possessing cocaine with intent to supply. The woman, who are aged 19 and 20-years-old and from the London area, were arrested at around 4.25pm on Sunday after being stopped by police in Old Road, Chatham. They have been bailed tion whilst enquiries continue.

On Monday a 24-year-old Chatham man was arrested on suspicion of possessing cocaine with intent to supply. He was arrested after police executed a warrant at his home. The man has been bailed whilst enquiries continue.

Sammy Abozid, 30, of Pimpernel Way, Chatham, was arrested and charged with possessing heroin and handling stolen goods after being arrested on Monday. He will appear before Medway magistrates on Wedneaday, June 4.
