Police are appealing to witnesses who may have seen the incident in which Steve Whiting was killed on the A2 on Friday, December 5.

The tragedy happened between the Cobham turn-off and the A289 Strood junction on the coast-bound carriageway at 5.35pm.

The dedicated motorcyclist from Sydney Road, Chatham, had ride home from work at the time.

Senior investigating officer Temporary Sergeant Steve Freeman said: “The police investigation is still ongoing and therefore it would be inappropriate to comment on the circumstances.

“Our thoughts go out to the family at what must be a difficult time and I would urge anyone who witnessed the incident to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01622 798538.”

Police want witnesses who may have seen the white flatbed van[understood to have been involved in the crash] parked, possibly with damage to it.

They also want to hear from anyone who may have seen Mr Whiting’s red Suzuki and the van just before the crash.

The make and registration of the van is not known but it is understood to be a small flatbed rather than a truck.

Witnesses can also contact police on 01474 366609.
