Fleet crash out of Trophy

Boreham Wood 3 - 1 Gravesend & Northfleet

BOREHAM WOOD produced an upset with a well-deserved 3-1 win against Gravesend in the FA Trophy second round on Saturday.

The impressive Leon Archer gave Fleet a scare on 21 minutes when he shook off the challenge of Paul McCarthy and forced a fine save out of Craig Holloway.

And he was heavily involved in The Southern League Division 1 East side's opener before the break when his pace found him clear of the Fleet back line and although his shot was parried by Holloway the rebound fell kindly for who made no mistake.

Archer wasn't to be denied and got himself on the scoresheet with a fine free-kick right at the start of the second half to double Boreham Wood's advantage.

And Fleet's misery was complete when McCarthy's back pass bounced over Holloway's foot on the edge of his six yard box and rolled into the net to make it 3-0.

Charlie MacDonald pulled one back for the visitors when he finished well from the edge of the box after Bobby Bowry's corner had been half cleared by Boreham Wood, but it was no more than a consolation.
