Fly-tipping suspect caught on camera

COVERT cameras brought in as part of Maidstone Borough Council's war on fly-tippers have captured their first suspect on film. The man was caught on video camera apparently dumping rubbish in Cossington Lane, Boxley.

His actions were captured on one of the new miniature cameras which have been put in place at fly-tipping blackspots across the borough. The recording was made on Sunday, June 23, at about 10.45 a.m. Now the council wants to track the man down to talk to him about what he was doing. And if he was fly tipping, as the footage suggests, possibly prosecute him.

The cabinet member for health and the environment, Cllr Roger Berriman (Lab), said: "I'm determined to do something about fly-tipping and this means finding the irresponsible minority and punishing them for scarring our environment. I urge anyone who recognises this man to come forward so action can be taken".

The undercover cameras are just one of a range of initiatives by the council to keep the borough clean. It has employed another hit squad to tackle fly-tipping and committed extra resources to doorstep recycling, graffiti removal, repairing street furniture and removing chewing gum and other stubborn stains from the streets. Anyone with any information on this susp0ected flytipper is asked to contact environmental health officer Graham Steady on 01622 602308.
