A STUDENT from Kent and six other people aged between 19 and 44 have been locked up for their part in an alcohol-fuelled rampage on Charlton Athletic supporters.

John De Bono, 21, of High St, St Mary Cray, Bromley, was among a mob of up to 30 Crystal Palace fans who attacked rival Addicks supporters and other passengers on a train in Sydenham, south east London, last September.

They puched and kicked several men in the front two carriages of the train carrying football fans to a match between the two clubs at Selhurst Park. Two bottles or cans were also thrown during the attacks.

Judge Robbins, passing sentence at Southwark Crown Court on Thursday, said: "This was mob conduct at its worst. You give football a bad name, especially your team Crystal Palace."

Harvey Neenan, 44, of Tulse Hill, south London, Dominic Goodridge, 32, of Woldingham, Surrey, were each jailed for 40 months and banned from attending football matches for 10 years.

De Bono, Danny Lehane, 21, of South Norwood, Croydon, and Leigh Bevis, 22, of South Croydon, each recieved custodial sentences of 30 months and were banned for 10 years.

Tommy Patience, 19, of New Addington, Croydon, and Stephen Edwards, 40, of Clapham, south London, were each sentenced to 24 months and banned for six years.

A 16-year-old schoolboy from Croydon, who was just 15 at the time of the attack, was spared custody because of his age. He was sentenced to a two-year community rehabilitation and punishment order and banned for five years.
