A KEEN amateur footballer who died after a fall three weeks ago will be remembered at a mini-tournament in his honour at the Garrison Stadium, Gillingham, on Saturday.

Paul Ross, a scaffolder who lived in Adelaide Road, Gillingham, suffered head and chest injuries after falling 20ft from a building in Thurrock in Essex.

Mr Ross played for The Cannon pub team and before that the Livingstone Arms. Both these teams will be involved in the tournament, along with sides from The Flying Saucer at Hempstead and another Cannon team, The Mortar.

One of the main organisers of the event is Richard Nixon, a long-term friend and team-mate of Mr Ross. He said: "We are planning to raise money for his widow, Sarah, daughter Charlotte, and baby son Matthew.

"The family were in the process of moving to Spain when the accident happened. It was a family dream. Sarah and the children had already moved there. Now she has returned."

Saturday's mini-tournament will kick off at noon. There is free car parking at Westcourt School which is opposite the stadium.
