KENT director of cricket Graham Ford has stayed behind in Canterbury to head up Kent's appeal against the eight-point penalty imposed after the win against Gloucestershire.

The points were docked after an ECB disciplinary panel judged the state of the Maidstone wicket was poor.

Ford has not travelled with the squad for the Frizzell County Championship match against Warwickshire at Edgbaston.

Kent go to the championship leaders protecting the only unbeaten record left in the top division.

The only change to the side that won so comfortably by 10 wickets at Glamorgan last week is likely to be the return of Simon Cook.

James Tredwell will drop to 12th man.

It is raining heavily in Birmingham and any play on the first day looks unlikely at this stage.
