Rohan Ricketts has expressed his disappointment at failing to sign for Gillingham but hasn’t given up hope.
He was left "gutted" after being told the Gills were unable to fund a deal for him.
The former Arsenal and Tottenham winger has recently been on trial with the Gills but manager Andy Hessenthaler (pictured) was forced to let him go.
The Gills boss has already blown his transfer budget and needs to off-load players before he can bring any in. Hessenthaler has also shown interest in former Charlton defender Jonathan Fortune.
The Gills have made Dennis Oli and Matt Lawrence available for loan, along with a handful of youngsters, but no players have yet to leave.
Ricketts, who writes a blog on his own website, understands the situation and hasn’t given up hope of re-igniting his career with the Gills.
He said: "Unfortunately despite impressing the gaffer, I was gutted to find out that he could not offer me a deal right away.
"Gutted is an understatement of the feeling when he broke the news to me. He seems like a real good guy who is working hard to try and turn his team’s form around.
"I hope that in the next week or so a deal can be reached so I can get down there and help the club push for a play off place."
Ricketts is well travelled. He started his career in North London and after spells with Wolves and Barnsley, he joined Toronto FC and had brief spells in Hungary, Moldova and last season played for German side SV Wilhelmshaven. He started this season playing for Shamrock Rovers, helping them to the league title.
He is currently training with Tottenham to remain in good condition.
