I like you but I want to hurt you – that’s the message from striker Chris Dickson to Gillingham ahead of their League 1 trip to Bristol Rovers on Saturday.
Gillingham’s top scorer from two years ago is currently on loan with Rovers and he’s aiming to shoot down the club who he admits he would love to play for again one day.
Dickson’s 11-goal haul during a loan spell from Charlton, which included a goal against Bristol Rovers, won him plenty of plaudits at Gillingham and led to manager Mark Stimson making him his No.1 transfer target this summer.
A move to Gillingham fell through and now on loan at Rovers, Dickson, pictured, will only have one thing on his mind on Saturday.
He said: "I’m a competitive person and Gillingham are going to be in front of me on Saturday. I have to do the best for Chris Dickson. If Chris Dickson is doing well, then Bristol Rovers are doing well.
"I hold the club dear but on Saturday they will see the other side to me."
A move to Gillingham was close in the summer and Dickson isn’t ruling out a return to Priestfield.
He added: "There is always a strong possibility that I could end up being a Gillingham player in the near future or the distant."
Dickson has netted four times for Rovers so far but should he score on Saturday, he won’t be going wild.
He said: "Because of the connection I’ve got with the fans there, I don’t think I would celebrate if I was to score.
"I would just put my hand up, that’s it. I don’t think there will be any ‘you can’t see me’ celebrations."
