Two prison workers were among four people arrested when police smashed a drugs ring at HMP Swaleside.

More than 20 Kent Police officers took part in the 6am raid at the Eastchurch prison on Tuesday, arresting four people for the supply and distribution of Class A drugs.

Those arrested were all men and included a prison officer, another member of prison staff, an inmate and a member of the public.

All were arrested for either the supply and distribution of a variety of Class A drugs or offences relating to the abuse of a public office.

Following the arrests a number of homes across the island were searched. Those arrested are still in police custody for further questioning.

The raid - named Operation Cornet - was a joint initiative between Kent Police and the Prison Service and involved officers from Kent Police’s serious organised crime unit and unarmed tactical support officers.
